Brad Lichtenstein, Filmmaker, 371 Productions Wisconsin USA

Brad Lichtenstein, President of 371 Productions, is an award-winning documentary filmmaker with a keen focus on social issues. He was executive producer of "Penelope", which recently aired on public television across the United States. This film captures the work of Anne Basting, founder of TimeSlips Creative Storytelling program and is about a nursing home that performs the Odyssey from Penelope's point of view.

He has covered issues of economic change (As Goes Janesville), environmental conflict ("Wisconsin's Mining Standoff"), and prison reform ("Ghosts of Attica").

"As Goes Janesville" was nominated for a national News and Doc Emmy. It tells the story of laid-off workers and leaders in a Wisconsin GM town trying to reinvent their lives amid GM's collapse and a civil war over unions.

"Almost Home" (PBS) tells the story of a year in the life of a continuing care community trying to achieve culture change.

In May 2015, Brad's documentary "Penelope" was screened on PBS. This film captures the work of Anne Basting, founder of TimeSlips Creative Storytelling program and is about a nursing home that performs the Odyssey from Penelope’s point of view.

Brad's company is developing new documentaries: "American Reckoning", about unsolved civil rights era murders told through the stories of the son of an assassinated NAACP leader and Congressman John Lewis; "The Last Jews of America", about disappearing Jewish communities in far flung parts of the US; and "When Claude Got Shot", a new film about gun violence from the position of the victim and the shooter. For Kartemquin, he is also a director for a 6-hour series for Al Jazeera America called "Hard Earned" about Americans trying to get by on low wages. It premiered in March 2015.

Inspired by "As Goes Janesville", Brad led the team that built BizVizz, a mobile app and website that gives users instant access to corporations’ effective tax rate, campaign contributions and government subsidies. With over 32,000 users and a dozen partners, from United for a Fair Economy to US-PIRG and the AFL-CIO, BizVizz is a proven corporate accountability tool. Brad is working with a virtual reality developer on a new tech project centered around inspiring empathy.
