Show and Tell 2010: Ageing and Imagination

Film, Sound and New Media Showcase

Clive Parkinson, Director of Arts for Health at Manchester Metropolitan University.

There is a growing awareness that whilst humans are living longer (depending on our global post-code!) and science strives to cure disease, we're nowhere near having the 'magic bullet' for dementia. However, arts engagement focused on the needs and aspirations of an aging population seems to be growing.

Something that has stayed with me, and that I hope will influence this event, is a focus on the possibilities of flourishing whilst experiencing dementia. Gene Cohen and Anne Basting have both talked about cognition most certainly being impaired by dementia, but the resulting impact on inhibition can have a profound effect on an individual's creative potential through imagination...which it's suggested, can thrive.

So, what's your practice and would you like to share it?

Show and Tell 2010: Ageing and Imagination is an opportunity for conference delegates using, or interested in film/sound/new-media in research, evaluation, practice and marketing, to share examples of their work in a supportive environment. The emphasis of this session is to generate constructive dialogue around the use of film, sound and new media in arts and health contexts that have a focus on ageing and/or dementia.

If you're interested in sharing your work, please send a 10-minute edit of your material to Arts and Health Australia. It is anticipated that a maximum of 10 pieces will be shared. Selection will be based on diversity of material. All material should be supplied on DVD/CD format with this completed form and cannot be returned.

This session will be facilitated by Clive Parkinson, Director of Arts for Health at Manchester Metropolitan University.
